Commercial Manager / Surveyor

Role

The role is immensely broad and includes anything from risk management to procurement, financial reporting and managing the supply chain.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing new projects to handover to the production or Contract Managers; having the overview for invoicing & applications as well as booking in ensuring correct dates of handovers are recorded and additional hire is charged; managing, preparing and booking in variations.
  • Preparing monthly turnover forecasts.
  • Out of Hours Alarm Call.
  • Check Orders, Sales and Accept Jobs, checking contracts from clients.
  • Permits for Scaffolding.
  • PQQ Documents – assist in preparation of documents for submission.
  • Update Strike and Reports.
  • Purchasing for Projects, managing all costs and preparing purchases.
  • Assisting in securing new business, tender applications.
  • Assisting in chasing debt.
  • Attending regular commercial reviews with clients.
  • Managing outside organisations like NASC, SMAS, CHAS, etc.
  • Liaison between Estimating department and production.
  • OCR reports are maintained and vehicle maintained is correctly administered, including MID and driver hours (FORS)  is recorded and correct and vehicle planner.
  • Assist with labour costings and occasionally, recruitment.

Key skills

Must have a strong commercial awareness, strong client liaison skills, project management and team leadership. They also need an extensive understanding of the construction industry, flexibility and a talent for negotiation.

Expected salary

Starting salaries characteristically begin at around £20,000 and for experienced staff will be approximately in the region of £50,000.

Qualifications required

Typically, this role is filled by experienced scaffolders or quantity surveyors that have risen through the ranks of the company, or experienced surveyors from other disciplines.
